Thirteen priesthood students in Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, received the ministry of acolyte on Feb. 15, including diocesan seminarian Nicholas Newton. Newton is a second year Theology student for the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Springfield. Installing the acolytes was Abp. Graduates of Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, St. Meinrad, IN, were awarded master’s degrees during commencement exercises on May 11. Graduates accepted their diplomas from the Rt. Rev. Justin DuVall, OSB, archabbot of Saint Meinrad Archabbey and chairman of the school’s Board of Trustees. Read more
Twenty priesthood students enrolled in Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, St. Meinrad, IN, received the ministry of acolyte on Feb. 7, 2013, in the seminary’s St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel. Abp. Joseph Tobin, of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, installed the acolytes, which included Michael Kuper of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. Kuper is a in his second year of Theology at Saint Meinrad.
An acolyte assists a deacon or priest, primarily in the celebration of Mass. He attends to the needs of the altar and may distribute Communion as an auxiliary minister. He also may be entrusted with the public veneration of the Blessed Sacrament, but does not give the Benediction, since he is not a priest or deacon. Read more
