Steubenville STL Mid-America Youth Conferences are billed as high-energy, Catholic youth conferences where thousands of teens encounter Jesus Christ through dynamic speakers, engaging music, the Sacraments, small group discussions and fellowship. The conference is an outreach of Franciscan University in partnership with the St. Louis Archdiocesan Office of Youth Ministry. Two sessions will be held this year, July 14-16 and 21-23. They both take place on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. Read more

“I’ve gone to countless Catholic retreats, but Steubenville was much different!” Such were the sentiments of Claire Croley, 17, first-time attendee at a Steubenville Mid-America Youth Conference. Steubenville is an encounter with the Lord Jesus. In praise and worship, in the Eucharist and adoration, in the sacrament of penance and reconciliation, and group faith sharing, Jesus becomes alive in the hearts of our youth. He is not a theory or a person of history: Jesus is with us.
When the young people encounter Him in the sacraments, they come to know joy! It is my hope that every high school age student in the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau will experience a Steubenville Conference: we have two every summer in our own front yard!

In preparing for this homily, I read a couple of commentaries on the Gospel of the day, highlighting the relationship between Martha and Mary and Our Lord. Sometimes we are like Martha, busy with many things, pulled in opposite directions. Many of you have summer jobs, sports camps, youth group. During school you have homework and pressure and busyness and drama of high school. Sometimes we are like Martha and feel swamped and overwhelmed.
