Much has been written about Fr. Syl Bauer’s many accomplishments in our diocese during his sixty years of active ministry, and rightly so. He has worked tirelessly to build missions into parishes, to see that parishes had the buildings they needed to worship and to educate their children, and to spearhead the formation of new services in the communities where he served as a priest.
As Bp. John J. Leibrecht said, “Fr. Bauer was a pioneer in this diocese. His fingerprints are all over southern Missouri.” He added, “You know where he has served by the people who still talk about him and appreciate him–as well as the buildings and other projects he supervised. His greatest ministry was in the parish and his life revolved around that.” Read more
