History
Although Sacred Heart Parish was not formally declared a parish until 1908, the first Catholics began arriving in the area in 1837. In 1869, the Frisco Railroad built a line through the area, bringing more Catholic settlers and railroad workers. Construction of a church began in 1876 and was completed the following year. Benedictine priests from Springfield and the pastors from Lebanon and Marshfield took turns celebrating Mass, although, at best, Mass was held only about once a month. The church was relocated and rebuilt in 1917, about two miles from its original location.
The parish completed a major renovation and the church was rededicated in 1958. Then, in 2000, a 40’ x 90’ parish hall containing classrooms for PSR, Scripture study, parish meetings, and a parish hall was built to accommodate the growth and activity of the parish members.
