History
Eminence, the county seat of Shannon county, is situated in the Current River Mountains, a picturesque section of the Ozarks noted for its pine-clad hills and spring-fed fishing streams.
St. Sylvester Church, built of natural stone and oak, overlooks the Jack’s Fork River. Its existence is the result of the work of the Vincentian Motor Missions and the number of Catholic tourists who visit during the summertime.
Situated on a steep slope, the building was designed in the style of the old farmhouses and barns of the area. The walls of brown and gray stone are two feet thick. The small church building has been featured in a book about architecture, as well as in a trade magazine, as one of the finest examples of church architecture in the world.
