Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry (Full-Time) — Springfield

The Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau seeks qualified applicants to fill the position of Diocesan Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. The Director develops and implements diocesan policies and programs related to Youth and Young Adult Ministry that will promote the three priorities of the diocesan Mutually Shared Vision: “Growing in Holiness, Forming Intentional Disciples, and Being Sent Forth to Witness.”

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative:

  • Develop and implement diocesan policies, programs, and activities related to Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
  • Manage the Diocesan Youth and Young Adult Ministry Office, including preparation of and operation within an annual budget as approved by the Diocesan Finance Council, and conduct daily office operations.
  • Work closely with and provide support to pastors, parish pastoral councils and parish ministry staff for youth and young adult ministry efforts.
  • Serve as a diocesan liaison to Catholic Campus Ministry leaders throughout the diocese.
  • Provide leadership and serve as a liaison for related organizations on the diocesan, regional and national levels – e.g. Region IX leaders, NFCYM
  • Serve as a liaison/advisor for Youth Adventure programs – e.g. American Heritage Girls, Trail Life USA, Boys Scouts.
  • Serve on the Youth Endowment Fund Committee in determining distribution of funds.
  • As a member of the Catholic Center Staff, collaborate with other members as necessary.

Youth and Young Adult Ministry Activities:

  • Provide education, resources, and ongoing training opportunities for personal enrichment and professional development of youth ministry leaders
  • Plan and facilitate diocesan activities which support and enhance the evangelization and formation of youth – e.g. Camp Re-NEW-All, Totus Tuus, DYC, youth retreats
  • Develop and train teams of young adults to serve on Camp Staff and on Totus Tuus missionary teams during the summer.
  • Promote and participate in other parish, regional, and national activities which enhance the evangelization and formation of youth – e.g. NCYC, Steubenville Youth Conference, and March for Life
  • Work with parish and regional young adult ministry leaders to promote or plan and facilitate ministry opportunities which are specific to young adults (ages 18-35)

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Practicing Catholic with a good understanding of and commitment to the primary
    documents of the Catholic Church, especially pertaining to evangelization,
    catechesis, and youth ministry.
  • Knowledge of current trends and resources for youth and young adult parish ministry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to listen, articulate ideas and principles,
    negotiate and mediate areas of conflict, and work in collaboration with others.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Experience as a presenter and trainer; skilled at large and small group facilitation.

Education and Experience
Applicant must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.

Employment or volunteer experience as a ministry leader with high school youth and/or young adults in parishes, schools, universities, or diocese is required. Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Pastoral Ministry, Theology, Catholic Education, or Catechesis is required.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Some evening and weekend hours, as well as periodic travel, driving across the diocese will be required to accomplish the work. Mileage is reimbursed at the set diocesan rate.

The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry works in close collaboration with the Diocesan Director of Faith Formation and the Diocesan Director of Evangelization and Family Life, and is assisted by the Diocesan Ministry Program Coordinator.

Director for Camp Re-NEW-All in Conway, Missouri (Part-Time) — Springfield

Position Summary
The Director of Camp Re-NEW-All works in close collaboration with the Diocesan Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and the Diocesan Ministry Program Coordinator to plan and facilitate all aspects of the summer camp program in Conway, Missouri. The Camp Director is particularly expected to impart and exemplify the “Camp Staff Mission”:

As camp staff, we serve as missionary disciples for Jesus Christ. Through our words and actions,

  • We help all children participating in camp activities to have a real encounter with Jesus
    Christ;
  • We accompany them on their journey of seeking and growing in relationship with Jesus
    through the Catholic faith;
  • We encourage them to boldly live and share their faith with others.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Throughout the year, before camp begins:

  • Collect applications for camp staff, communicate with applicants, and make determinations on camp staff assignments.
  • Review Faith Formation theme for camp year. Discuss with Kim Sellers (Fredericktown Camp Director) and with your own Activity Directors to determine t-shirt designs, activities, and crafts that coincide with theme.
  • Go through current inventory supplies for sports equipment and crafts. Coordinate with the Diocesan Youth Ministry Office to order supplies for the upcoming year.
  • Communicate with priests who will be serving as camp chaplains and plan for liturgies.
  • Communicate with Camp Cook Staff Director for planning meals
  • Contact Diocesan Ministry Program Coordinator to have copies printed for all necessary camp forms
  • Arrange for help from camp staff and former campers/staff to move items from storage to camp on the Saturday of the first camp

During the three weeks of camp:

  • Camp Director sets the tone for camp. Exemplify the Camp Staff Mission at all times
    through word and action
  • Plan and facilitate camp staff training on Sunday of each week of camp
  • Give presentations to staff and campers about Diocesan Safe Environment guidelines and policies, with specifications of how to apply them for all activities at camp.
  • Enforce policies and discipline “rule breakers” as needed
  • Direct and oversee camp staff and participants throughout the week as they follow the daily schedule of activities. Keep activities running on time.
  • Arrange for help from camp staff and other volunteers to assist in cleaning, packing, and moving items to storage on Friday of the last week of camp.

Qualifications and Skills

  • In compliance with Diocesan Safe Environment policies, the camp director must be 25 years of age or older
  • Practicing Catholic with a good understanding of and fidelity to the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Strong leadership skills including: comfort with public speaking, good time management, effective behavioral management/discipline with children (and sometimes adults), ability to remain calm and determine best solutions quickly when facing challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including: the ability to listen, articulate ideas and principles, negotiate and mediate areas of conflict, and work in collaboration with others
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Education and Experience
  • Employment or volunteer experience as a school teacher, PSR leader, or youth ministry leader is preferred
  • Former camp staff experience is a plus

Working Conditions

The Camp Director works in close collaboration with The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and with the Diocesan Ministry Program Coordinator. Planning for camp during the school year, may be done from home. Camp Director is expected to be present at Osage Retreat Center in Conway during the last three weeks in July.

A salary and some mileage reimbursement for camp travel purposes is provided.
